blanket guidelines we came up with so far:

the size of each block: 12 x 12
the yarn: bernat softee baby
any color is great EXCEPT white, which will be used to crochet the squares together.
the design: your choice. knit, crochet, etc all good.
for knit/purl design ideas, try some of the washcloth sites, like knitting knonsense

that's it so far. am i forgetting anything?

I found lavender bernat softee baby at my Walmart yesterday. All the other colors were either a mix that won't show patterns or some colors that were a little too muted.
So far, I'm thinking of the dragonfly and a hummingbird I found the other day. I also found one that's little baby feet if anyone wants it. :)

I'm leaning toward the batty one, if I can make the size come out right. I don't have the yarn yet.

It'd be kind of cool if we could do an image for each letter of the alphabet, but I'm thinking that might unnecessarily complicate things. ;-)

LOL! I just saw that Cheryl posted the batty one for you, Mimi! I hadn't read that comment yet when I mentioned it. I just found it on Knitting Patterns Central.

If you want to do that one, I'll find another one!

Okay, I'm going to start by trying the sailboat one, since I used to be a sailmaker. Plus, it goes well with the blue yarn I had to buy, since Michael's didn't have lavender.

Do we know about how many squares we need?

Ooo Debbie, that sounds nice! Did you go to the Michael's in Davie by the Bean? Sounds like a new beach hangout doesn't it?

12 or 16? Squares per blanket? What does everyone think?

Well, I finished a square. I calculated carefully and created a graph, but it came out 10" x 12", instead of 12" x 12". :::sigh::: I rechecked my gauge and everything, and I still come up with the same numbers, but the measurements are just wrong. I'll have to redo, clearly.

Sounds like my projects. All those complicated colorworks you've done and where do you find grief? In a square....hee hee

I'm starting my first square today. I just got two skeins of variegated Bernat at Michaels and am doing various stitches from a book I got for Christmas. Something new for me to try :).
