Hi All! I finally corrected my wonky beginning rows. I cast on and knit the first row so tight, it always looks uneven and sloppy. I cast on & knit the 1st row with a pair of needles 1 size smaller, then knitted onto the larger needle. It worked like a charm. (That was for you HP fans)
I did a sheep cloth out of cotton so it's pictured here for reference. I'm just going to get it as evenly as possible on the 12" square. Bobbles can be "involved" but there's not too many, just enough to get some good practice. I'm going to enjoy knitting this one again.

Finally got started!
I finally got started on a Dragonfly square in lavender. While my darling daughter was beating up would be suitors in karate, I worked out a guage swatch, did the math and translated the pattern to hopefully keep the dragonfly in the center.

does anyone need an easy pattern, good for variegated yarn?
If so, this mitre square pattern makes a perfect square (so it would be easy for our purposes) and looks interesting. Carol sent the link to the dishcloth group, and I thought, HEY! This might be a good baby square!

i finished my "no count" variegated square. now back to the ghost square! i've been lucky enough to have good viewing material while knitting-- nate got me season 1 of "beauty and the beast" so i have been having a ball watching that and working on my square!

close up of lin's popcorn heart!
this crochet block looks fantastic. can you believe lin just made this up based on looking at a picture? no pattern, just all talent!
jupitrpixie's chevron square
this one is turning out really nicely too-- the pattern combined with the tweedy blue and white is really classic and lovely!
my "no pay attention" square in progress
of course, i had to rip it out 2 times because i was talking instead of purling at the proper time. but it still is a heck of a lot easier to keep track of then the ghosty square! and, i needed something to do with the variegated yarn. . . .
lyndsey's square
I had so much fun taking a picture of this beautiful square outside on a lovely day! lyndsey, this is going to look so awesome in the blanket! feel free to post your "how to" on how you got the RIGHT SIZE!

Bunny pattern
Here's the bunny toy pattern I found. It's not really a pattern as much as suggestions.

I'm In ...
I had quite a time getting in here because I hadn't posted to my blog in so long I couldn't remember my username, password, any of it!! I'm going to search tonight for the pattern I want to use for my square. I did find a cute skull and crossbones one that I actually thought Beth might really like, but didn't know if it was baby material. So I'm off to search and will let you guys know what I come up with.

Baby Square in Progress!!
I started mine as well last night. I'm using the Chevron pattern (zig zags) - I got the link off of Knitting Pattern Central in the dishcloth pattern section. I CO 72 sts on size 6 needles. It seems to be measuring about 12 in across so far...

i started one tonight!
i'm making a cute little ghost pattern and it is looking cute so far! hopefully it will work out size wise. i've got the 12 inches across part ok (i CO 50 on a size 7 needle) and am hoping my bad math skills will not get in the way of the length part working out. But it's really cute, and the yarn feels very nice and soft when knit up. how are your squares going, (or not going) everybody?

Yay!
Hi everyone! I finally got signed up! I can't wait to get started :-)
Just a question, which weight of the Bernat Softee is everyone using? I was looking online at the colorways and I think the Chunky has more options - but I don't want to do my square in Chunky weight if everyone else is using the other weight - do you think it makes a difference??

blanket guidelines we came up with so far:
the size of each block: 12 x 12
the yarn: bernat softee baby
any color is great EXCEPT white, which will be used to crochet the squares together.
the design: your choice. knit, crochet, etc all good.
for knit/purl design ideas, try some of the washcloth sites, like knitting knonsense
that's it so far. am i forgetting anything?
